WHAT MAKES DESIGN DESIRABLE?
To me as a designer, it's all about a vision coming alive. It is my vision to merge aesthetics with craftsmanship and functionality. Because design does not just have to look beautiful - it also has to fulfill a purpose, it needs to be functional. Therefore, the right material matters as much as certain quality standards, accomplished by form and style. Once a project ticks all those boxes, I'm happy to put the Kerl studios tag on.
HANDCRAFTED DESIGNS,
MINIMAL STYLE.
Every single Kerl studios product is made by hand and therefore has a unique character. I put a lot of time and passion into finding new ideas and creating concepts, into developing several prototypes, choosing the right materials and finalizing production processes. For me, design is the result of a liaison between materials and craftsmanship. That is a strong enough combination in itself and therefore, I prefer a reduced, minimalistic style.
NATURAL MATERIALS,
INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS.
I love being in nature and as a result, I am really enjoying working with natural materials, such as stone, leather, slate, clay or wood. Natural materials have been strong design elements for centuries. They won't ever come out of fashion and they are sustainable. A lot of my designs follow sustainable concepts - I want them to be long-lasting as well as recyclable.
INDIVIDUAL NEEDS,
CUSTOMMADE ITEMS.
Have you ever looked for something particular and there was just no way of finding it? That's why I customize. Having items made bespoke adds often so much more function and value to them - it characterizes craftmanship. And it does not have to be an apron or a pot with individual measurements - I also customize sofas or even house facades.

To keep it short: Those are some of my creations that I am especially proud of. As you might have guessed already - creating flowerpots and spaces for plants is my wild passion. But I am picking up all sorts of projects and enjoy working with various materials.

ABOUT KERL STUDIOS
Kerl studios was founded as a one-woman company in 2018. My name is Susanne Kerl and I am a creative designer with a Bachelor's degree in fashion design as well as several courses in different mechanical fields. Founding my own company was my way of bringing all my influences together. You might wonder why it's called "studios" - well, let me explain:
As I am always looking for inspiration, new methods, different materials, learning new skills - I like collaborating with other professionals. This workflow opens new opportunities for me, I call it working in different studios.
